13,000 floating emerald islands make up the Indonesian archipelago stretching 3,000 miles from Asia to the Pacific. We visit the Eastern Islands, also known as Nusa Tenggarra, which cover only a tiny fraction of this vast country.

Traveller Mark Crowdy starts his Indonesian journey in Bali from where he travels by ferry to climb one of Indonesia's 400 volcanoes on the island of Lombok. He then travels East to Komodo to come face to face with its famed dragons and on to the dramatic sulphuric lakes of Flores. Travelling via the spice islands of Ambon and Bandu, he ends his journey in Timor.

Along the way...

  • Take part in a tribal coming of age ceremony
  • Climb an active volcano
  • Play music on a conch shell
  • Surf one of the remotest beaches on earth
