FORMAT: MULTI-REGION What's this?On his first
Globe Trekker experience
Alex Riley explores the
Spanish Islands, taking in the world famous
Balearics in the Mediterranean and the
Canary Islands located off the west coast of Africa in the Atlantic Ocean. Best know for their party resorts and the overwhelming influx of British summer holidaymakers, Alex sets out to discover the less well known aspects of these islands.
His journey begins in the millionaire's playground,
Mallorca where he gets to know some of the island's famous former inhabitants. Then he's off to the neighboring island of
Ibiza to sample the infamous nightlife before finding some peace and quiet on the laid back island of
Formentera. Alex's journey then takes him 2,000 miles south via Madrid to the
Canary Islands. His first stop is
Gran Canaria where he arrives in time to celebrate the
festival of the Virgen del Rosario and learns the
Canarian art of
stick fighting. Alex then travels on to
Tenerife to climb the
Tiede volcano. The final leg of his journey takes him to one of the most famous kite surfing spots, the island of
Fuerteventura where he tries his hand at the action sport. His trip ends with a group of Canarian shepherds on the unspoiled island on
La Palma.
