Zoe Palmer and
Matt Young on two epic journeys.
In the
Cook Islands Zoe Palmer visits Captain Cook's landing spot in
Atieu, experiences a traditional Polynesian welcome and goes to see a ceremonial site where local people once carved the faces of their gods into the rock. She also joins in the
Mire Tarai Festival where she is included in an all female team of canoeists who compete in a race across the local lagoon. Following in the wake of ancient warriors and intrepid explorers, visiting these idyllic islands is an unmissable experience.
In
Papua New Guinea,
Matt Young flies to the remote village of
Kokoda where he treks in the footsteps of Australian soldiers along the infamous
Kokoda Trail. En route, Matt is invited to take part in a traditional wild boar hunt, has a look at some recently discovered WWII artifacts, visits the battle site of
Brigade Hill and meets a remarkable member of the
"Fuzzy Wuzzy Angels" - Papua New Guineans who helped the Australian soldiers during the fighting. Jam packed full of war history, local culture and spectacular scenery, a visit to Papua New Guinea is a truly fulfilling experience.
