FORMAT: MULTI REGION What's this?Imagine emerald green land resting in the lap of the Himalayas, watching the sunrise from behind the world's highest peaks. Earlier travelers called it the mythical paradise of
Shangri La, but to us earthly mortals it's
Nepal. Land locked between
India and
Tibet, its dramatic location attracts travelers seeking adventure, spirituality and some of the best trekking in the world.
Globe Trekker Ian Wright starts his journey in the bustling and expanding modern day capital
Kathmandu, sampling Nepalese food, nightlife and visiting the most sacred Hindu temple in Nepal,
Pashupatinath Temple, home of the young princess goddess. His journey takes him on a hunt for the elusive
Bengal tiger in
Royal Bardia National Park. Ian spends the evening in a small village nearby and witnesses a local celebration. From the
Terai region Ian flies to the
Lukla, in the eastern
Himalayas. He makes his way along a section of the
Everest highway to the popular bazaar at
Namche and visits
Tengpoche Monastery where he witnesses the traditional
Mani Rimdu Festival. Joining a sherpa, Ian gets some insight into the nature of trekking in the heights of the Himalayas. On the last leg of his journey Ian flies to
Humla, a town well off the trekkers track.
