Justine Shapiro set out on a journey to look beyond the stereotypes and seek out the real
Germany.
Megan’s journey begins in
Berlin, where she visits one of the last remaining sections of the
Berlin Wall, takes a tour of the city’s WWII sites and explores
Kreuzberg, an ethnic Turkish neighborhood. She ventures out along the
“Romantic Road” passing through some of the prettiest towns in
Bavaria, including
Dinkelsbuhl and
Rothenburg. She visits the extraordinary
Neuschwanstein Castle, before heading on to
Friedrichshafen to fly in a
Zeppelin. Megan’s journey ends with a visit to
Dortmund’s famous
Love Parade.
Justine’s travels begin in rural
Lower Saxony, with an overnight stay at a “hay hotel” near the village of
Landeloh. She continues on to the
island of Sylt, the birthplace of modern German nudism and visits
Munich in time for
Oktoberfest. Justine ventures on to
Berchtesgaden, Hitler’s mountain retreat near the Austrian border and ends her journey with a climbing expedition up
Mount Jenner.

Merilees Parker take you on a culinary tour of
Germany. The journey begins in
Munich at the world famous
Oktoberfest, where Merilees discovers the best of German beers as well as the
Weisswurst - Bavaria's very own sausage! Nursing a hangover, she heads off to uncover the history of the pretzel and tries her hand at making the delicious
Black Forest Gateau from one of the best bakers in the country. She discovers two sides of the capital
Berlin, sampling its new and sophisticated cuisine as well as its nostalgic produce that originated from the former GDR.
